Introduction

Every believer, at some point, asks why bad things happen. It might be after a personal loss, a global tragedy, or a season of suffering that seems to have no purpose. The question “Why does God allow bad things to happen?” is not new. From Job in the Old Testament to the early disciples of Christ, people of faith have always wrestled with this issue.

Understanding the biblical perspective on suffering is important because it shapes how we respond to trials. It helps us move from confusion to trust, from fear to faith. The Bible does not ignore pain. Instead, it provides deep insight into the reasons behind it and shows how God can use even the most painful experiences for His good purposes.


God Did Not Create Evil

The first truth Scripture teaches is that evil was not part of God’s original creation. Genesis 1 tells us that everything God created was good. Sin and suffering entered the world through human disobedience, not through God’s design.

Romans 5:12 says, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.”

This verse shows that bad things are a result of living in a fallen world. Our world is broken because humanity chose rebellion over obedience. Diseases, disasters, and death are painful reminders that the world is not as it should be. Yet God did not abandon His creation. He sent His Son to begin the work of redemption, which will one day restore all things.


Trials Reveal Our Faith
