How to Prioritize God’s Kingdom

Bible Verse: Matthew 6:33 (NIV) – “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Reflection:

Matthew 6:33 provides a profound insight into the priorities of the Christian life. In this verse, Jesus instructs us to focus on seeking God’s kingdom and His righteousness above all else. This directive comes in the context of a broader discussion about worry and material needs. Jesus acknowledges that we have concerns about our daily necessities, but He assures us that when we place God’s kingdom first, He will take care of these needs.

Seeking God’s kingdom involves pursuing His reign and authority in our lives, living according to His values, and advancing His purposes on earth. It means prioritizing our relationship with God and aligning our actions with His will. Similarly, seeking His righteousness means striving to live in a manner that reflects His character and standards.

The promise that “all these things will be given to you as well” underscores the faithfulness of God to provide for us when we make Him our primary focus. It’s a call to trust in His provision and to redirect our energy away from worrying about material concerns to investing in our spiritual growth and service to His kingdom.

Application:

  1. Evaluate Your Priorities: Reflect on how you allocate your time, energy, and resources. Assess whether seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness is truly at the top of your priority list or if other concerns are taking precedence.
  2. Set Spiritual Goals: Identify specific ways you can actively seek God’s kingdom and righteousness in your daily life. This could include setting goals for prayer, Bible study, serving others, or participating in church activities.
  3. Trust in God’s Provision: Practice placing your trust in God’s promise to provide for your needs. When you find yourself worrying about material concerns, remind yourself of His faithfulness and focus on pursuing His kingdom instead.
  4. Incorporate Kingdom Values: Integrate the values of God’s kingdom into your interactions and decisions. Let principles such as love, justice, mercy, and integrity guide your actions and relationships.
  5. Pray for Alignment: Regularly seek God’s guidance in aligning your priorities with His will. Use prayer to ask for His help in keeping your focus on His kingdom and righteousness.

Prayer:

“Father, help me to seek Your kingdom above all else. I trust that You will provide for my needs as I focus on Your righteousness. Guide me in making Your kingdom the central priority of my life and help me to live in a way that reflects Your values and purposes. May my actions and decisions honor You and align with Your will. Amen.”
